The People's Assembly approves the amendment of Law 57 for maritime certificates


The People's Assembly approved today the amendment of Law No. 57 of 2001 regarding the maritime certificates and the conditions required to obtain them. The Minister of Transport, Ali Hammoud, stated that the Syrian Arab Republic has acceded to the International Convention on Training Standards, 14). Accordingly, Law No. 57 of 2001 on maritime certificates was issued for the master, the surface officer, the radio officer, the marine guide, the chief marine engineer, the marine engineer, the ship's electrical engineer, and the conditions that must be obtained for obtaining these certificates. The Minister added that some amendments have been made to the above mentioned international agreement, especially those adopted in Manila in 2010, which required consideration of the provisions of Law 57 of 2001, The ministry has recruited a number of experts to evaluate the file of the Syrian Arab Republic to grant maritime certificates in accordance with the amendments of Manila submitted by the General Directorate of Ports as the competent maritime authority in the country. Public Foundation for Marine Training and qualification as recognized by the Maritime Institute, and the amendment was made in accordance with the experts' observations and became law after its adoption today in the People's Assembly. The minister noted that this procedure guarantees the continuation of the Syrian Arab Republic in granting maritime certificates and not having to go to the neighboring countries, On the white list.
